MLS Network Power Rankings Edition 2:

1. LAFC (-)

It would be pretty unfair to dethrone LAFC because of some rain, so they'll keep the top spot ahead of their first match against Portland. Philadelphia are right on their heels.

2. PHILADELPHIA UNION (-)

The Philadelphia Union got right back to business in their match against Columbus, responding to a Jakob Glesnes own goal with four consecutive goals, split by Daniel Gazdag and Julian Carranza. The Union look like the cream of the crop in the East early on.

3. ORLANDO CITY SC (-)

Orlando City did not play the prettiest of matches, but a Facundo Torres penalty was enough to tide them over for the three points against the Red Bulls. They will face FC Cincinnati at home next week in a real test of their mettle.

4. FC CINCINNATI (+1)

FC Cincinnati also did not play their greatest, but were able to get the 2-1 result against the Dynamo. Brenner did not start, while Lucho Acosta and Brandon Vazquez played a solid game, yet were kept off the scoresheet. Alvaro Barreal and Obinna Nwobodo starred for FCC.

5. PORTLAND TIMBERS (+6)

The Portland Timbers grabbed three points in a tight battle with Sporting Kansas City on Monday night. Evander looked sharp, Zac McGraw had a great game in the back, but the injuries are a concern. Yimmi Chara joined the injured Dairon Asprilla, Felipe Mora, and David Ayala, but they still got the job done.

6. LA GALAXY (+1)

LA Galaxy gets a one spot bump due to many of the top teams losing in week one. They'll play their first match on the road against FC Dallas next weekend.

7. SEATTLE SOUNDERS (+8)

The Sounders were the most convincing team in week one, pounding the Colorado Rapids 4-0. Seattle was the biggest mover this week, as a result of Jordan Morris's brace and the spectacular defensive play of Yeimar, Nouhou, and company. Their next one will be another home game, against Real Salt Lake.

8. ATLANTA UNITED (+5)

Atlanta United were just moments away from making a big move downwards, but Thiago Almada had other plans. Atlanta played quite poorly in their 2-1 victory against the San Jose Earthquakes, but three points is three points, and their new DP striker has yet to play. They will host Toronto FC on Saturday.

9. AUSTIN FC (-5)

Austin FC was shocked by St. Louis City SC in their inaugural MLS match, as they came back from a 2-1 deficit to ultimately win 3-2 at Q2 Stadium. It's important not to overreact to match-week one, but Julio Cascante's two month minimum injury makes the CB situation extremely worrying. They will have another shot at home in week two against CF Montreal.

10. NEW YORK RED BULLS (-4)

The Red Bulls had a tough first match, as they were the better team against Orlando City for much of the game, only to concede a penalty kick and lose 1-0. Like Atlanta, their new DP striker Dante Vanzeir has yet to play, and will bring a surge to the attack. Next, it'll be Nashville SC at Red Bull Arena.

11. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION (+5)

The Revs played a stalemate with Charlotte FC for the majority of the match, but Henry Kessler's late game winner gave New England all three points. The attack was not exactly lively, but the defensive performance from Romney and Kessler was phenomenal. Noel Buck played another great game, while Gustavo Bou and Latif Blessing did not appear. They will host the Houston Dynamo at Gillette Stadium next Saturday.

12. NASHVILLE SC (+6)

Nashville SC started the MLS season out with a bang, manhandling NYCFC in the first game of the 2023 Major League Soccer season. Walker Zimmerman and Shaq Moore were astute in the back, while Jacob Shaffelburg showed real flashes of promise. MVP Hany Mukhtar came on late and set up the dagger. They will have a good test against the Red Bulls in week two.

13. FC DALLAS (-5)

FC Dallas did not start things out on a positive note, falling 1-0 to a Minnesota United side without Emanuel Reynoso. Alan Velasco, Jesus Ferreira, and Paul Arriola were able to do not much of anything, and the entire team looked lethargic. Their attempt at redemption will be a home match against the LA Galaxy next week.

14. SPORTING KANSAS CITY (-5)

Sporting Kansas City would be a good team if they were healthy, but it seems like that is never going to be the case. Starting center back Kortne Ford tore his achilles, while DPs Alan Pulido and Gadi Kinda are still not ready to play. SKC played well in the second half against the Timbers, but could not find the equalizer in a 1-0 loss, though Willy Agada had a golden chance late. They will look to improve on the road against a fellow pointless team in the Colorado Rapids.

15. REAL SALT LAKE (+5)

Real Salt Lake got absolutely dominated by the Vancouver Whitecaps in the first half, but a late flurry of goals put the match in the win column, 2-1. RSL showed their character in this one, but they will need to start games better to continue their success. Next, they have a great test against the Seattle Sounders.

16. NYCFC (-6)

NYCFC looked pretty bad in their 2-0 loss, to be blunt. Talles Magno is not a #9, he's much better on the wings. The attack struggled to get forward at all, and Nashville was all over them. Help is on the way though, Santi Rodriguez and perhaps other signings are going to be coming in. They'll visit Soldier Field and the Chicago Fire next week.

17. TORONTO FC (-5)

Toronto FC played in a wild one at Audi Field, ultimately falling 3-2 to DC United thanks to the heroics of Ted Ku-Dipietro. Toronto won the xG battle 2.29-0.84, but DC was simply clinical and took advantage of their opportunities. Lorenzo Insigne is currently not training ahead of their visit to Atlanta next week.

18. COLUMBUS CREW (-4)

Columbus scored first, via an own goal, but the Philadelphia Union wasted no time responding, and the Crew ended up losing 4-1 at Subaru Park. Cucho Hernandez and Lucas Zelarayan were frustrated and unable to get the attack moving, and both received yellow cards. Columbus's lineup is not looking very menacing in the early goings. They will host DC United next.

19. INTER MIAMI CF (+5)

Inter Miami looked sharp against CF Montreal, winning 2-0 without Leo Campana. Josef Martinez debuted, but it was Serhei Kryvstov scoring in his debut, with a substitute contribution from Shanyder Borgelin. Gregore helped the defense stand tall. Miami will be tested on Saturday night with a visit from the dangerous Philadelphia Union.

20. CF MONTREAL (-3)

CF Montreal were not being rated highly during the preseason, and they proved the critics right in week one. They created the chances, but just failed to score any of them. Romell Quioto is the only real attacking threat for this team right now, he needs help. Next week, they will be forced to visit a hungry Austin FC.

21. DC UNITED (+5)

DC United won in incredible fashion against Toronto FC, in a 3-2 result. Mateusz Klich started off hot with an early goal, and Ted Ku-Dipietro came through in the clutch. They will look to prove their worth in Columbus at Lower.com Field next week.

22. MINNESOTA UNITED (+5)

Minnesota United posted a moderately surprising victory against FC Dallas, in a dominant defensive fashion. Dallas was unable to create much of anything through their attack, and Mender Garcia's lone goal was enough to provide the Loons a 1-0 victory and all three points. They will take this week's bye.

23. ST. LOUIS CITY SC (+6)

St. Louis CITY were the story of week one, surging back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Austin FC 3-2 in a hostile Q2 Stadium environment. DP Striker Joao Klauss scored the game winner with a trivela, while Eduard Lowen provided two assists from the midfield. They will officially open CITYPARK in their home opener against Charlotte FC.

24. CHARLOTTE FC (-5)

Charlotte FC was not very convincing in week one, as their attack was completely shut down in a 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution. Enzo Copetti had a silent debut, but big things are still expected from him. Charlotte will get some key pieces back from injury soon enough, but perhaps not before their next one against St. Louis.

25. VANCOUVER WHITECAPS (-4)

Vancouver played 70 minutes of decent soccer against Real Salt Lake, but failed to finish the job, conceding two goals right in a row to lose 2-1. The Whitecaps have a lot of promise, but they will need to figure out how to close out games more effectively. They visit San Jose on Saturday.

26. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES (-4)

San Jose played a solid match for 92 minutes, before giving it all away to Thiago Almada in a shocking 2-1 defeat. Next week's Earthquakes vs Whitecaps matchup will see two teams that brutally coughed up results in week one fight for their first points.

27. COLORADO RAPIDS (-4)

Colorado made plenty of positive changes in the off-season, but those were seemingly not on display in week one. The Rapids were the losers of the first week in MLS, falling 4-0 to Seattle in a game they were barely involved in. They'll get their chance at redemption in the home opener against Sporting Kansas City.

28. HOUSTON DYNAMO (-3)

The Houston Dynamo went into TQL Stadium and put up a fight, only losing 2-1 with a goal from new signing Tate Schmitt. The Dynamo were the better team for much of the game, so in due time they should rise up the rankings. Their next match is an away one at Gillette Stadium, where they will face the New England Revolution.

29. CHICAGO FIRE (-1)

Chicago did not even play a game in week one, but they'll have to start from the cellar. Their first match will be at Soldier Field, where they will host NYCFC.
